Road Trip Interrupted By Car Sickness? 4 Steps To Get Rid Of The Lingering Odor
If one of your kids got carsick during your last road trip of the summer, you want to get rid of the odor as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, if you couldn't get to the deep cleaning right away, the smell might be lingering. Don't panic. Here are some simple steps you can take to get your car smelling fresh and clean again.
Vacuum the Car
If the odors are stuck in the carpet fibers, you'll need to give your carpet a thorough cleaning. First, sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda on your carpets. Use a brush to work the baking soda into the carpet fibers and allow it to set for about 30 minutes. Vacuum your entire car. If the odors linger, empty the vacuum dirt container and repeat the entire process.
Clean the Vents
If you had to drive for several hours, or even days, before you were able to get it cleaned, the odor might be stuck in your ducts. This can happen when the odors being filtered through your car get stuck in the dust particles that are inside the ducts. You can get rid of the odor by cleaning out the vents. To do this, you'll need a can of compressed air. Point the nozzle directly into each of the vents and release the compressed air. The air will remove particles of dust from inside your cars ducts. Once the odor-holding dust particles have been removed, your air will smell fresh and clean again.
Reach for the Charcoal
If you've got stubborn odors that don't want to go away, reach for the charcoal. Charcoal can absorb the foul odors that refuse to leave. Grab a few pieces of fresh charcoal from your barbecue and place them in a small bowl. Set the bowl in your car and leave it there for several days. When you remove the bowl of charcoal, the odors will go along with it. If you want to keep odors away, simply leave a piece of charcoal in your car at all times.
